Beyond What is Seen

This color pencil drawing is from my junior year of high school. We had to combine into one piece of art, an artistic movement along with an artist that was not apart of that movement. Both had to inspire us with either their style or their story. For the art movement, I chose the Surrealist Movement. For the artist, I chose the Post-Impressionistic painter called Leonid Afremov. In his paintings, he layered many short strokes of color on top of one another. Even though he was a painter and his style was executed with a brush, I wanted to attempt a similar process with colored pencils. Additionally, I added a bit of surrealism in my artwork in terms of apples representing hills and the stems of such apples representing lanterns.
